Chancel window repair at St. Mary, the Virgin, Buriton.
The latest quinquennial report called for the chancel windows surrounds to be repaired. It is not known when in the building’s 840 year history they had last received such attention, if ever. Two large coping stones on the east gable wall were also repaired. Church Architect HMDW of Chichester ran a competition between five contractors and Shepherd and Grantham Stonemasons Ltd of Arundel, West Sussex, was chosen.
St. Mary’s is a small parish so, while it has some reserves for building maintenance, its PCC always seeks help for projects as large as this. It is delighted with the quality of the finished repairs and would like to record its thanks to the following, noting the worth of its excellent local support:
Local donors (incl. Gift Aid) £13,821
All Churches Trust Ltd.** £1,500
East Hampshire DC £517
Total (excl. VAT) £26,957
* Cathedral and Church Buildings Division, Church of England
** owners of Ecclesiastical Insurance Group
